Project Profile:
Advancing Overtown's Revitalization: In downtown Miami, the Historic Overtown Folklife District Property Owners Association was created with technical assistance and facilitation by South Florida LISC. The group is charged with carrying out a Master Implementation Plan for the District, which was commissioned, designed and released by South Florida LISC. With this plan, the District was able to gain a commitment of $30 million in TIF funds for affordable housing from the City of Miami, which will generate 2,400 new homes over a five year period. South Florida LISC also negotiated a benefits agreement with Crosswinds Communities to provide an additional 62 homes in the neighborhood, estimated at $6 million. Also, the County Commissioner endorsed the Alonzo Mourning Town Center Project, a $200 million mixed-used project with 250 units of housing and 75,000 square feet of commercial space, based on a LISC-produced development plan.
